"Incredibly memorable."

Have you seen the TV commercial for Battlefield: Bad Company 2?

That's right, it's "incredibly memorable." I can't figure out why a reviewer might have thought this was a useful phrase to describe a game, or why a marketer would choose that, of all the plaudits presumably available, for the ad. Lots of things are memorable, and not always for a good reason. I have memories of Manhunt 2 that I can't get out of my head, not even with a power drill. At least when Earl Dittman of Wireless Magazines calls The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D a masterpiece, you know exactly what he means.

On the other hand, there's something lovely about the phrase. It could work for everything, good or bad.

"How was your weekend?" "Incredibly memorable."

"Thank god that fire's out. I never thought bananas foster could be so incredibly memorable."

"Then I started throwing up everywhere and, well, I don't have to tell you that it was one of the most incredibly memorable sales presentations I've ever given."

Yes, this phrase could take off. And why not? It's incredibly memorable.

Bah, who reads words? All i saw was explosions, and all i heard was the Queens of the Stone Age. I do get a little excited when i see this commercial, but I'm far too slow-witted to survive in one of these types of games.

Yeah, to be fair, the commercial makes me want to sprint to my living room and start playing the game, but my experiences doing things like flying the helicopter do not much resemble what it looks like in the ad.

Yes it is a bit strange when that pops up.

I guess they're trying to imply that it's not just another popcorn, love it and leave it action game. The problem is all the action on screen says that it is. I mean it looks like an awesome love it and leave action game but Hamlet this ain't.

Cut them a break, people. They just wanted to take a break from "compelling" for once.

Haaaaa

I've only played the demo, but it actually doesn't even seem "very" memorable, let alone incredibly.

Or maybe the reviewer thought that the fact of the games memorability strained credulity.

Like, "Incredibly, this military FPS is memorable!"

Let's ask Mr. Montoya.

What a incredibly memorable post ;) can't wait to try out the game to see if it really can live up to the "memorable" title.

Clearly you don't have the first understand of anything. This came is INCREDIBLY memorable. I am sure you remember the other games, even bad ones, but how well do you remember them? Probably not very well at all. This game you WILL remember it. You will remember it so well, that you yourself will be impressed with your memory, you'll think it's incredible. (it isn't)

That's what this game does, it's either extremely bad or extremely good, but either way, you best believe you're going to remember it, and remember it well. You might even think you have photographic memory, that's the amount of impact this game will have on your mind.

It's a little dangerous if you think about it, but don't think about it too much.

I played the demo too and found it memorable for all the wrong reasons. Fellow nerds tell me that minus a lot of bugs the real game is much better. But I think I'll just play some COD instead.

Interestingly enough, I saw this ad on TV at the bar I was at last night, so naturally I waited for the "Incredibly Memorable" line to come on, and... I didn't see it! I think they took it out.

Now it has more substantive quotes, and the new one says "The best multiplayer game of the year!" or some such.

Clearly this post caused the marketing folks at EA to see the error of their ways.

Also, seeing it running on a big TV out of the context of my computer, I was like "Wow, this game looks sweet."
