Contra update

After browing the comments at Kotaku and some Wikipedia entries, I've concluded that A) the Konami code will be included in the XLA Contra, and B) the emulation will definitely be of the arcade version. All of my earlier comments stand. Plus it seems that the port keeps the original's vertical screen orientation. I'll wait for the Wii's Virtual Console edition, thank you very much.

Also, in Europe the game was called Probotector, which has got to rank in the top five made-up words I've ever heard.

I could probably research it myself, but there's a lot of crap out there.

Anyway, what I've been wondering is the multiplayer aspect of the Wii "virtual console," as you refer to it. For instance, will I be able to play Contra over broadband with my brother in Holliston?

I can only imagine what a gigantic selling point that would be, but I'm afraid Nintendo has taught me not to dream too much until I have it in my hands. Finding out shortly before launch that the DS was essentially a walkie-talkie as far as wireless play went was pretty disappointing. I'll refrain from saying anything about Wario Ware Touched, as well.

You know, I'm not sure if Nintendo has said either way. I do know that Street Fighter II for the Xbox Live Arcade will have net play. I have to assume that the same will be the case with all of these new games. It only makes sense.

What concerns me is just how plausible "do you know what kind of work it would take to convert that entire, gigantic library to internet multiplayer?" sounds.
