Recommend gaming blogs

Hello there, Insult Swordfighting readers! I have a question to ask of you. What are some gaming blogs I should be reading? My blogroll is woefully thin, and I'm starving for new content. I'm looking specifically for blogs that traffic in commentary and analysis moreso than straight news or reviews, but anything you enjoy is welcome.

Please leave any suggestions in comments, and, if you're so inclined, a few words about why you recommend those sites.

A few of my personal favorites:

Sexy Videogameland
The Brainy Gamer
Zack Hiwiller's Blog
The Plush Apocalypse

I'll shamelessly plug by own blorg The Quixotic Engineer as well. It's not really all about video games, but roughly half the posts end up talking about them.

Thanks! I actually have been reading SVGL so often lately that I'm just been delinquent in adding it to my blogroll. Maybe some others, too, now that you mention it...

Thanks for the link! Duly returned because your blog is a terrific read.

My Google Reader list (which you should use to read blogs if you don't, btw) is really really full, so I'll only pick about 5. Unfortunately, Matthew Gallant took some of them. Damn him for having good taste. In particular I will second Sexy Videogameland for offbeat stuff related to cultural phenomena.

1) www.sirlin.net for thoughts on competitive gaming and skill vs. casual gaming, sirlin is great.

2) selectbutton for more emo stuff.

3) fullbright for a designer's look at level design. You get nice thought process from him.

4) http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation This is Yahtzee's brainchild. Absolute genius.

5) Warren Spector's blog - oldschool, good writing.

Keep up your good work,
-YZ

Okay... just google for Yahtzee Escapist "Zero Punctuation" instead. I think my URL was too long.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've been needing a push to check out Zero Punctuation, actually. I keep reading how great it is, but I've never bothered to watch it.

Yes, I need to second Sexy Videogameland as well. -- Hee hee.

But rilly, Brainy Gamer, Plush Apocalypse, Quixotic Engineer, and Selectbutton are my usuals. And Insult Swordfighting. I have also been lazy about my blogroll, but it has been duly rectified.

I've got two suggestions. They're both larger blogs, with multiple writers and a mix of content, but both manage their own voice and feature a lot of smart analysis. These are daily destinations for me. First would be gamesetwatch.com . Simon brings in a lot of development-related information and interviews and fills it out with various columns poking into the odd crevices of gaming. Downsides: The spamfilter's been swallowing my comments recently, and The Aberrant Gamer columns are morally reprehensible. The other would be rockpapershotgun.com . It's a bunch of the best British writers collaborating to cover and analyse games, with a nice mix of interviews and criticism thrown in. Downsides: PC-only, obsessed with Peggle and the Weighted Companion Cube.

Morally reprehensible? Ooh, burn.

Thanks again for everyone's suggestions. Some great stuff here.

I think I'll have to bookmark this "morally reprehensible" column...
